Our ethos

Learning through nature, play and wonder

At Little Honeybees, we believe the best learning happens when children are free to explore, discover and follow their curiosity β€” especially outdoors.

Children exploring outdoors in a woodland setting, learning through nature

A forest-school heart

Our approach is deeply rooted in forest-school principles. We believe that time spent in nature β€” whatever the weather β€” builds resilience, confidence, creativity and a lifelong love of the natural world. We spend as much time as possible outdoors, whether that's in our garden, at the allotment, or exploring local parks and woodland.

How we learn and grow

Child-led learning

We follow each child's interests and curiosity, creating rich play experiences that feel meaningful and exciting to them. Children are natural learners β€” our role is to nurture and extend that.

Outdoor every day

Rain or shine, we get outside. Fresh air, natural materials and open space are essential ingredients for healthy development β€” physically, emotionally and cognitively.

Hands-on discovery

Digging, building, mixing, making β€” children learn through doing. We embrace mess, mud and the magic of hands-on exploration.

Emotional wellbeing first

A child who feels safe and secure is a child who can learn. We prioritise warm relationships, consistent routines and emotional literacy.

Respect for nature

We teach children to care for the natural world β€” growing food, observing wildlife, and understanding the seasons and cycles of life.

Inclusive and celebratory

Every child is unique and wonderful. We celebrate diversity, support individual needs, and ensure every child feels valued and included.

Everything we do is underpinned by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. We plan purposeful activities across all seven areas of learning β€” woven naturally into play and daily life.
